Slightly later in the week after a Bank Holiday and my regular Tuesday rest day, here we go with the weekly email and later on some news about 2014....
Today Cafe Breathe is on at St Peter's, 7.00 til 8.30 pm in the Youth Room.
Thursday I'm at Showcase after school at George Spencer and then Youth Club at Toton Methodist in the evening, 7.00 pm til 8.30 pm.
Friday brings GYM youth club at TMC for anyone in Year 3 to 6, 6.15 pm to 7.45 pm, and this week it's movie night.
Sunday is going to be a busy day! We've got our monthly All Age Worship at 10.30, and I'm part of the team leading this one, followed immediately by our annual BBQ for all the uniformed, youth and children's groups in the churches. If you haven't already told us you are coming, please, please, please do! Breathe Deeper is on in the evening at St Peter's with the theme of "Tonguetied"...
Looking much further ahead to 2014 - America.
I'm sure by now some of you will have heard that we are looking into the possibility of a trip to America in the summer of 2014. I've drafted an information sheet that will be available from today at all our Y7 and up groups with more information, but the bare bones for now are these:
- a friend of mine in Virginia (a Methodist minister over there) approached me last autumn about the possibility of working together again
- Lisa and I lead an exchange project between our 2 previous churches in 2006/-7
- nothing is confirmed yet, but the Church Council meeting last week gave us approval to explore what might happen (Lisa and I have bounced some ideas around).
- The minimum age to travel will be 14 or to be at the end of year 9. Assuming we travel in 2014, that's anyone currently in Year 7. This is the same minimum age we worked to last time Lisa and I lead an exchange.
- It is planned that this will happen during the school holidays of 2014 and 2015, provisionally based on us travelling to the USA in 2014 and hosting a youth group in 2015 on a return visit.
And looking much further ahead, this is part of an agreed rolling programme where we look at sending teams of young people abroad every three years. No, I have no idea what 2017 might involve! Whatever type of trip we plan, there has to be a lower age limit, and it will vary depending on the destination country. Inevitably, there will be some people who will be too young for this trip, and I can only apologise, and while it may not be much comfort now, there will be more opportunities in the future.
And Finally....
A bit of fun. I spent the weekend over in Manchester at The Lego Show, where I was part of the team setting a world record with a rather large Lego Mosaic, all 143.91 square metres of it.... There's a pic of it here if you're interested.
Please do get in touch if you have any questions or comments about any aspect of our youth and children's programme at Toton Churches, or indeed if you would like to come off the weekly mailing list. Have a good week.
God bless,
Andy
