Following on from last night, here are the 5 summary paragraphs, with the books they outline -
This book lays out how the Israelites needed to live if they wanted God’s blessing. Some of the laws in it seem bizarre to us. However, this book recently inspired a worldwide campaign for debt relief that was supported not only by church leaders but also politicians and rock stars. Leviticus 26:1-13
This is where it all begins – the universe and the story of God and his particular chosen people. Here you’ll find Adam and Eve, Abraham and Sarah, Joseph and his Technicolor Dream Coat. And remember, this book covers a longer time period than all of the rest of the Bible put together. Genesis 1:1-2
Shortly before Moses died he preached a number of special sermons in the desert (like massive farewell concerts) to remind people that God had chosen them. They just needed to keep up their commitment to him and to the way of living he’d taught them. Deuteronomy 1:1-5
Forget getting lost in the shopping centre or stuck in a traffic jam, this book relates one of the most frustrating detours in all of human history. When one generation of Israelites refused to trust God they were left to wander aimlessly in the desert for 40 years while the next generation grew up. Numbers 14:26-35
This book must be exciting because Hollywood has made more than 1 blockbuster based on it. This is where Moses is called by God to lead the Israelites out of Egypt. If you are into plagues, bizarre weather and God on top of a mountain, then this is the book for you! Exodus 3:1-10
