Ah, the madness that is December is looming! I've just drafted a sketch for one of our Christmas events and realised how busy next month is looking....
This week is relatively normal, looking like this, but look out for an extra challenge later on:
Today I'm off to a meeting in a few minutes to plan some assemblies at George Spencer for next week, then off to a meeting about potential chaplaincy work at George Spencer after that. And then another meeting this afternoon...
Tomorrow I'm off for the day.
Wednesday I'll be spending much of it preparing for services over the next few weeks, so look out for me at some point in the afternoon escaping my pc and hitting Costa! And then another meeting in the evening...
Thursday brings Showcase and youth club as usual.
Friday brings the regular Friday groups, Play and Praise
Saturday all day there will be a food collection at Tesco for the network of Food Banks across Nottingham. I'll be there from 4 til 5 pm with some of our group leaders and young people, pop along if you can.
Sunday I'm preaching at the 8.30 and 10.30 services at St Peter's the 10.30 being a combined service for both churches while Messy Church is going on at Toton Methodist.
24 Hours:1 Day:0 Meals Over recent weeks we've been doing some thinking about food banks and the fact that up to 200,000 people in the UK don't have the money to be able to buy food every week. On our own, or even with a group of friends, we can't solve that problem, but we can help, either by doing something simple like donating food to the food banks, or by improving our understanding of the problem.
Over the weekend of December 22nd/23rd, (yes, the weekend before we all tuck into our Christmas dinners), I'm challenging you to go without food for up to 24 hours. Between 6 am on the Saturday and 6 pm on the Sunday, pick a target period of up to 24 hours and experience what it is like to go without food. Set your own realistic target, think about the limits you are going to place on yourself. I'm limiting myself to water only (fluids are essential, do not go without them) between 12 pm Saturday and 12 pm Sunday. The only exception will be communion at church on the Sunday..
It's not a fundraiser, it's simply a personal exercise to experience what it's like. You decide when to start, and when to stop. You don't have to do the full 24 hours. I've attached an information and registration form with more info on it, if you are going to give it a shot, please do register, which can be done by email by parents of under 18's. We don't recommend you do this if you are still in primary school.
And if that weekend doesn't suit, do it the weekend before like someone else has already told me she's going to do!
Have a good week one and all, hope to see you somewhere around Toton.
God bless,
Andy
